What is the aura? What does it do? Can it been seen with the human eye?
The aura has been described as many things, but most often it’s portrayed as essence that emanates from the body that can be seen through various means. It is often described as bands of color or light, the border of the etheric body, the “human rainbow.” In religious works of art, auras are often portrayed as a halo surrounding the head of the saintly or spiritual.
Everything has an aura of some kind. An aura can be used to detect physical, mental and emotional health problems – even before disease or illness is present. Auras change colors depending on your mood or state of health, becoming more vibrant in higher states, muddy and grey in illness and fear.
People’s auras can also affect each other – becoming harmonious and uplifting together, or causing dissent and repulsion. Perhaps this is why some people instantly connect and get along great while other people seem to put off the people around them.
Scientific Studies of the Aura
Several scientists have studied the aura — Baron Charles Von Reichenbach, Dr. Walter Kilner and Seymon Kirlian. They each used different terms for it but came to many of the same conclusions.
Development of the Dicynanin Screen
Walter Kilner developed a “dicynanin screen” which made the aura visible to the human eye. He believed the aura had three parts:
- The etheric double closest to the body
- An inner aura radiating from all parts of the body several inches wide
- The outer aura starting at the edge of the inner aura and extending outward several inches.
Using his dicyanin screen, Kilner discovered that 95 percent of people could see the aura. His primary interest lay in using the aura as a diagnostic tool to find diseased areas of the body.
Kirlian Photography
In 1939, Semyon Kirlian developed a way to photograph the aura and conducted series of experiments to study the differing auras of living things. He found that disease could be detected through the aura before it manifested in the physical body. Using this method, a person was able to be treated before illness developed.
Kirlian also discovered that a person’s emotional, mental and physical state affects the aura which can, in turn, affect the things around them. For example, when preparing equipment for some visiting scientists, he began feeling unwell and the equipment would not function, so he went to bed. However, when his wife, Valentina, set up the equipment, it worked fine. This led them to further investigation about the makeup of the aura—was it heat radiation or an electromagnetic field?
The aura remains something of a mystery. Some people say they can see it without the use of any devices such as a dicynaninscreen. Some believe that Kirlian photography simply detects the amount of water in an object, rather than its life force. Perhaps, in time, future scientists will reveal more answers.
